Facebook Hit's The Stock Exchange
With over 900 million members across the world, it is not only the world's largest social networking site but the most popular website in the world and it is set to prove its worth by floating onto the stock market on May 18. This initial public offering is set to be one of the biggest in history and has the potential to raise millions and could take the value of Facebook up to a whopping seventy nine billion dollars!
Investors across the world are excited at the prospect of getting a piece of the pie and why wouldn't they be? The site speaks for itself; with the public, celebrities and big brands having signed up as members it is more than clear that Facebook has dominated the globe however things may not still be on the up.
They say what goes up must come down and Mark Zuckerberg's creation is no different as Facebook has recently reported that it has suffered its first revenue slide in two years; so is this the best time to be conducting its initial public offering?
With a revenue slide and the rise in popularity for Google +, many will no doubt argue that the networking site is headed toward a long awaited cooling off period but this is Facebook and despite taking a path towards the biggest internet stock offering in history, we seriously doubt that the website will stop growing. For any fast growing company, a rapid cooling off period will always be a worry but when you are a site that literally has the world hooked; we doubt it is a worry that will last.
The site is obviously popular which is why there is no surprise as to the massive buzz that has been created and with whizz kid CEO Mark Zuckerberg set to hold on to 58% of the company voting power we wonder just what Facebook will achieve by going public? With a big question mark over the sites long term growth; will it be a wise move or one that Zuckerberg and his team will regret?
