For businesses delving into the world of online marketing, they will no doubt be aware of the importance of social media. Social media has grown tenfold over the past five years and with fans, followers and members in the millions; sites including Facebook and Twitter are now crucial players in the marketing world and a social presence has never been more important to a business.

For those who have incorporated social media site Twitter into their marketing strategy and have imbedded widgets on to their sites; they will now need to be aware that Twitter has made a major change. The iconic bird logo so symbolic of the word 'tweet' has undergone a makeover; the cartoon bird has now changed into a darker, more simplified blue bird however the changes do not end there.

For advertisers, websites, authors and designers the company has released a set of rules that must be followed when using the logo and include a ban on speech bubbles, a ban on duplicating the bird, changing its colour or rotating its position.  The rules consist of a mass list of do's and don'ts which the site states are to protect and assist users so they do not face legal action although many have made a mockery of the strict guidelines.

If your business has incorporated Twitter into your online marketing, then ensure you have changed the logo and read the rules…this is one bird you don't want to get on the wrong side off.
