Facebook to Launch News Feed Advertising?

Social media; the reason why we now have friends we've never met, we're glued to our phones as often as can be allowed and we have the attention span of a goldfish…the internet and social sites have most definitely changed the world. Facebook, Twitter and some of the best of the bunch have millions of followers across the globe ranging from the average Joe to the President of the United States; our world is social and hence the reason why businesses will be left hearing the words, social media marketing and online marketing more times than they care to.

With online communication at the centre of global activity it comes as no surprise that businesses are capitalising on this highly successful marketing route however some seem to be doing better than others. Let's take a look at Twitter as the perfect example; renowned for providing instant connection to people all around the world but viewed as having an age old system that allows advertisers to abuse tweets and bombard the twitter feeds of anyone that cares to follow them…probably why Facebook is seen as the ultimate social marketing tool but we wonder how long that is going to last?

According to the latest reports; Facebook is following in the footsteps of its not so obvious rival Twitter and trailing a system that will allow advertisements to appear in newsfeeds. The new feature will allow firms to target a mass audience on the site that will go way beyond their fans and if test is deemed a success; it could begin hitting real news feeds very soon.

Currently a business can only 'buy' advertisements on the social site to appear on sides of homepages but now for a fee; any and all businesses have the opportunity to have adverts appear in the news feeds of Facebook fans they have yet to reach. Perhaps this is just a feeble attempt by Zuckerberg and his gang to prove his creation still has the money making capability but no doubt marketers across the nation will rejoice.

For online and social media marketing advocates this will no doubt be great news but whether or not fans will be happy with the feature is whole other story….
